DISCLAIMER: I don't like this song
First off I like the crowd. This is a keen insight to modern life especially city life which Ezra grew up in.. Especially the fact that each person is an individual. they each have a selective outfit pose and that show originality and the classic 'be yourself message' which is nice! Each scene celebrates each character... except one! And this irritates me I don't usually get annoyed by these thing but this made me genuinely mad. The premise of the video seems to be celebrating unique personalities but at one point in the video there is the stereotypical suburban girl in a prom queen outfit. In the scene she in on her phone and a man comes up to her and smashes her phone. this is celebrated in the video. It seems harmless but when the rest of the video is celebrating people it seems wrong just to single out one character negatively.
However on another note I liked the ideas of originality. When a light goes up all the crowd put on sunglasses except one who took out tanning mirrors. I found that funny and it made me smile, which I think was the point of this video as a whole was to make people smile.
The singer however should not be in the video. George is a fine singer/guitar player, however his video acting was very poor. He also looks like he is in slow motion for most of the song. It baffles me.
In terms of how this affects our video, Budapest will most likely alter how we do our performance. Ezra is emotion-less and looks like he is constantly in slow motion. we do not want to replicate this. Our performer will have to be showing clear emotion throughout the song. this includes movement as well as facial features. However this video also gave us the idea to involve extras. Also the video only focus on the main character(s), this shows us that an extra can have equal if not more influence on the plot. The large crowd depicts people so well, especially the large array of characters. We want our characters to have character.
